Friends of OS Gray Natural Area

The Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area promote, support, enhance and help maintain the O.S. Gray Natural Area through conservation, organic landscape practices and utilization of volunteers and special interest groups.

The group encourages organic landscaping practices by:

  • Lowering irrigation requirements
  • Limiting mowing during appropriate times
  • Encouraging selection of native plants in all plantings
  • Providing educational opportunities
  • Creating awareness
  • Removing invasive plant species
  • Restoring native grasses, trees and other herbaceous species

In addition, the friends group promotes the enjoyment of the outdoors in a natural setting  by providing trail access, encouraging wildlife habitat and hosting community work days where all members of the Arlington community are encouraged to assist in natural area maintenance and restoration.

Members of the O.S. Gray Natural Area also work with the Arlington Conservation Council and the Molly Hollar Wildscape to promote native landscape and organic gardening practices.

Looking for a great volunteer or learning opportunity? Join the Friends on the second Saturday of every month at their Natural Area Workday.  For more information, contact the Friends of O.S. Gray at
